About Jessica

Get to Know Me
My name is Jessica Wason. I am a middle school reading specialist. When I accepted the job in 2022, my school had never had a reading specialist before. I worked very closely with my principal and colleagues to build a schedule and program from the ground up. My goal is to help other secondary reading specialists do the same.
Before I became a middle school reading specialist, I spent 14 years as an elementary teacher. I have taught in private and public schools across 3 different states. My wide range of experience has uniquely equipped me for the rewarding role I now hold.
I live with my husband and our 2 dogs in Wichita, Kansas. My husband loves to study history, especially the Medieval period. Our first date was at a Renaissance Fair! He has come and done presentations at several different schools that I’ve taught at. He is currently a middle school social studies teacher.
